Housed in the Steven E. Nelson Adventure Center, named after Steven E. Nelson, a former President of the Mzuri Wildlife Foundation, funded by the Bohannon and Nelson families and the Mzuri Wildlife Foundation, the Petaluma Wildlife Museum is largest student run museum in the nation.
The 10,000 square foot complex is filled with live animals, displays and many hands on activities. The Petaluma Wildlife Museum is run almost entirely by high school students. The student docents lead tours, care for the animals and design and build new exhibits. The Petaluma Wildlife Museum offers a summer wildlife program for youth aged 8-13. Current projects include a new Native American artifact collection and a multi-species South American exhibit.
