The Mzuri Wildlife Foundation held its 11th Annual SCI Cocktail Reception on February 5th, 2016 at the beautiful Four Seasons Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada and it was a huge success!
Sandy Froman, President of the Mzuri Wildlife Foundation was present to inform attendees that the Mzuri Wildlife Foundation has funded millions of dollars of wildlife conservation projects, in Africa, the western United States, Canada, and throughout the world.
But as the world is changing, the Mzuri Wildlife Foundation’s focus is evolving too. While Africa still needs the help of those dedicated to the preservation of wild game animals in their natural habitat, the environment for hunting and hunters has changed here in the United States too. Fewer people are taking up hunting as our society becomes more urbanized. That is a trend that we hope you agree must be reversed.
One way we have done this is through the support of programs like the Kid’s Outdoor Sports Camp. Attendees heard from Jenifer O’Hara about the difference Kids Outdoor Sports Camp is bringing to the youth of the Western United States and their efforts to keep the hunting tradition alive.
Going forward, MWF intends to commit more resources to programs that foster greater participation by women in the shooting sports with the support of our generous donors. Women now represent the fastest growing segment in the shooting sports industry and the Mzuri Wildlife Foundation wants to be part of that leading edge.
Mzuri Wildlife Foundation is also venturing into new programs like the SCIF Adult Wilderness Leadership School that gives real teachers the knowledge and tools to teach our youth the importance of wildlife conservation and the vital role that hunters play in wildlife conservation through the use of the North American Wildlife Conservation model. Todd Roggenkamp, Deputy Director of Education for SCIF was on hand to give the crowd an overview of this important new program for Mzuri Wildlife Foundation.
We had many other grantees on hand to talk about many of the programs MWF has funded over the years. In addition to our past grantees, we had visits from new programs as well. Here are some of the programs that were represented:
• Victoria Falls Wildlife Trust – Jessica Dawson, General Manager
• Water for Wildlife – John Mayfield, Board Member
• NRA Foundation – Don Chilcote, Director of NRA Hunter Legacy Forum
• Friedkin Conservation Fund – Andy Payne, Director
Old Friends and New
In addition to the great speakers, it was a time to renew old friendships and meet new friends of the Mzuri Wildlife Foundation.
As you enjoy our gallery of photos from the reception, you will clearly see what a great time it was.
There is one thing that is becoming clear, the Mzuri Wildlife Foundation Reception is becoming the event to attend. We hope to see you there next year.
