Honoree

John Kamps

John Kamps has been a supporter of the Mzuri Wildlife Foundation and Wildlife for over 35 years with a hunting and fishing background all his life. Hunting has taken him all around the world to hunt many of the Citi’s animals covered in the Treaty. While on hunts a lot of time was spent picking up and destroying poaching snares and traps that ruin our animal population. This is the very reason Mzuri is so important to our habitat around the world.

After going on an African hunt in Zimbabwe in 1998, the hunt and the great outdoors have become a passion for hunting in most every country that offers fair hunts. This gives a great understanding of the culture of the people that are the care takers of those animals that they have around them.

Now 82 years old with his wife Jill and two daughters Kacey and Kamryn. They are off on their own careers which allows for more hunting, fishing and support for the great outdoors.

Speakers

Dan Cabela

Dan Cabela was born and raised in Sidney, NE and was introduced to conservation, hunting, and fishing by his father at a very young age.

This early introduction took hold, as now 200+ days in the field each year is common. Whether in the cornfields of Iowa or the mountain tops of Ethiopia, participation with and around wildlife is a prime objective. He is the host of “Hard Truths of Conservation,” a television series which airs on Discovery Channel and Animal Planet, and is dedicated to teaching the masses about sustainable use through hunting and conservation. He is currently the Executive Director of the Cabela Family Foundation which aims to build and create partnerships and projects which promote outdoor recreation, conservation, and charity toward others.

Dan graduated from the University of Texas in 1992 with honors, achieving a Bachelor of Arts degree and has worked and participated in the outdoor arena for most of his life. Dan and his wife Darlene are in their 32nd year of marriage and live on their ranch in Dripping Springs, TX where they raise endangered and at-risk species such as Dama Gazelle, Kenyan Mountain Bongo, Addax, Nile Lechwe, and others. They also own and operate Asante Lodging and Events, a best-in-class, short-term-stay venue which borders their ranch. They have three wonderful children, and the entire family is active in outdoor and wildlife participation.

Ivan Carter

A native son of Zimbabwe, Ivan Carter dedicates his life to developing and implementing wildlife conservation solutions that benefit both the animals and the communities that live with them.

Ivan grew up in the bush and has spent more than 200 days a year for the last 30 years in the field as a professional photographic guide, hunting guide and a leading voice for conservation. With his depth and breadth of knowledge of Africa, its wildlife and its people, he understands the complex layers of the human wildlife conflict and what it takes to address the rampant poaching of Africa’s wildlife.

Ivan Carter found the Wildlife Conservation Alliance to support wildlife conservation initiatives that are truly sustainable, using African solutions to solve African problems.

Brooke Carter

Brooke Carter is a young, passionate conservationist and host of the EarthXTV show Wild Wonders with Brooke, where she explores and educates about wildlife and ecosystems globally with experts like her conservationist father, Ivan Carter, inspiring kids to protect nature through adventures with creatures from alligators to sea slugs, emphasizing that everyone can make a difference for wildlife.
